No, Ellen DeGeneres Has Not Died

This isn't the first time claims have circulated that the out comedian and former talk-show host passed.

Ellen DeGeneres is not dead.

A report that the popular comedian and talk-show host had died was recently trending on X, formerly Twitter, The U.S. Sunreports. But she’s very much alive and well, and this month she celebrated her 15th anniversary with wife Portia de Rossi. On Instagram, DeGeneres posted a photo of her and de Rossi vacationing in Spain.

The trend included use of the hashtag #RIPEllen, the Sun reports. Then, when it surfaced that she was among the living, there were comments such as “Why did I think Ellen was dead?”

There were erroneous reports of DeGeneres’s death last December as well. Stephen “tWitch” Boss, the DJ on her talk show, died that month, and some fans thought the news was about DeGeneres.

Another false claim of her death circulated in the summer of 2020, along with the #RIPEllen hashtag. That came at the same time as rumors that her eponymous talk show was going to be canceled. The show actually went on until last year.

DeGeneres and de Rossi renewed their wedding vows in January in a ceremony officiated by their friend Kris Jenner. De Rossi arranged the ceremony as a surprise at the celebration of her 50th birthday.

In the anniversary photo, DeGeneres and de Rossi were on a yacht. Jenner had posted a picture earlier, apparently on the same boat, of herself and her boyfriend, Corey Gamble, with de Rossi and DeGeneres, sailing around Majorca.

DeGeneres shared this tribute to her wife: “To my wife of 15 years — I fall more in love with you every day. My life is blessed because you’re in it. Happy anniversary.”
